I am looking at a 2001 50 HP Mercury ELPTO tomorrow. I need serial number for the first 2001 engine. I tried the search, no luck.

Re: Mercury model year

Hi Clanton,
From http://www.marinepower.com I found this:
"I ordered a copy of this manual from my local Mariner dealer quoting the above part no. When it arrived the manual was for a Mercury 50/60 Four Stroke engine, Starting Model Year: 2001, Starting Serial No: 0T178500. The part no. quoted above is correct. I have spent £32.00 needlessly."

Pretty lame I guess, but it says Mercury 50/60 Four Stroke engine, Starting Model Year: 2001, Starting Serial No: 0T178500.

Is 50 HP Mercury ELPTO a two-stroke?

There is no serial numbers for later than 1996 models at my usual sources, like marinshopen.se

I also found out that the 1999-2001 two-strokes are identical according to the support at marinepower.com

Not what you asked for, but I tried :D I don't know what time you have over there right now. If it is too late I just gave it a shot for questions to come...

Thinks , I am looking at a whaler with the Merc today about 12:00, and would like to id the engine today. Will not have serial numbers until then.
