Mercury oil alarm

I have a 90 HP Mercury on my Nitro 640. The "low oil alarm test" that beeps when the switch is turned on no longer beeps. Any ideas on why this has stopped and is it something to be concerned with. I called a dealer rep. and he said this alarm was only for low oil and didn't beep in the event of a mixer failure. I'm wanting to get on the water but I'm afraid to start the motor...HELP!

I always make sure the tank has oil before going out, does this alarm sound if the mixer stops or is it indeed just a low oil alarm?

Re: Mercury oil alarm

The Oil alarm( or warning control module) alarms in the following conditions:

1. Over heating of engine(continous beep)
2. Low oil (beeps off and on)
3. Oil injection pump is faulty

Either way you look at it, you want this to work and function properly. I just had mine changed as it would not go off--constantly beeped even when the engine was not running. Mercury price is about $200.
