Hello all,
I have a couple of quick questions. And then maybe some more as time progresses. I have acquired an older Merc 50hp 4-plugs, 2 carb. from someone. A friend of mine knows who owned it and said it wasn't used much and is a pretty good motor. I put it on a stand and got it to turn over. Now, the questions. I have the serial number and would like to know the specifics for it. If anyone can tell me the year it is and all the boat jargon as well. (stroke, etc.)
S/N: 6449211

Also, it is missing the starter and water pump; is it possible to get the right water pump for it by the year and/or the SN?

Thanks for your help,
Beej

Re: Mercury outboard 50 hp info needed.

Welcome aboard.
Your engine is a 1984.It should be easy to get a waterpump at your local merc dealer.Give him the serial number and the horse power and he will do the rest.It would be a good idea to get a manual. Just go to the bottom left side of this page and order one.
Your engine is a 4 cylinder 2 stroke. It uses champion L78V plugs it has 43.8 cubic inches.

Hey rolmops and Dunaruna,
Thank for the info. And to answer your suggestion, rol, I did go to the library and check out a manual. But I wanted to get a definite on the year. I t've been trying for awhile now until I stumbled upon this site. Thanks again,
Beej
