I need HELP guys. I just purchased a Mercury 2 stroke outboard which I am told is a 1997 or newer engine. It only has 1 carb on it. The number I've found on the top right side of the head according to iboats is for a 90 hp engine. The motor cover says its a 70. The engine has been completely repainted BLACK & there NO NUMBERS to be found anywhere. I've looked on the heads, the engine block, the outside of the engine & no where can I find a model or serial number. Can anyone possibly help me with no more information that what I've provided? The engine starts & runs good & has trim & tilt. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Pictures of the engine are provided. DSC00190.JPG

Re: Mercury Outboard Identification

What is the s/n which you obtained from the upper right side of the head or was it a p/n?

It must have been a part number. When I did a search of the number on several sites they all said it was the p/n for a 90 hp head. I've been told of about 4 different places to find the model/serial number but since the engine has been newly painted I can not see anything that even looks like a number or a small plate on it. The only number I could make out was on the prop which is 4873136 A4 13P which I am sure is no help at all for what I am trying to find out.
