I have a 950ss and have lube leaking out of the back. Attached is a picture of where it is leaking. There is a little notch you can see in the picture on the back of the lower unit. I am assuming this shouldn't be there being as lube is leaking out and water could get it. However, it doesn't look like this notch / hole was created by hitting anything. Does anyone know any information on if that is suppose to be there or not? Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Mercury Outboard Lube Leak

This looks like gear lube leaking past the driveshaft or shiftshaft seal(s) and exiting thru the water drain hole. Since this should be corrected and you are having that shift issue you should pull the LU and fix the leak and set up the shifting.
