Mercury power heads

I have been looking at mid to late 90's motors to purchase.As I look I see many more mercurys with new or replaced power heads than any other brand.Can someone enlighten me?I have always had OMC but would not be against another make.

What hp ? The Mercs that had the most powerheads replaced was the early Opti's and that was about the same time the OMC ficht was failing.

No motor is any better than the maintenance the owner is willing to provide.

Mercs are a serious performance motor and with the proper care and feeding can last a couple lifetimes. Then again, they can be seriously abused an die before the weekend is over.

How fast and how long are you willing to go?

Are you willing to take decent care or your envestment?
