I am working on a 2007 merury 50 hp outboard and I took the ram apert and check it over claened and replaced the o rings put a new shock rod in it and it still wont raise the engine up but just an inch or two. as soon as it gets pressure on it the motor is spinning but no pressure. When I took it apart I noticed a small metal spring had mashed itself against the top of the shock rod cap and on the piston when it had tgone up and down but I dont know where it came from. all of the 5 springs in the pison were intact when I took it apart and I have checked everything else out and nothing is missing according to my drawings. HELP !

just got through addressing the same issue with my motor. Everything sounded fine but the motor would only move a fraction and not consistantly. Mechaniic said there is a small set screw on the pump that needed retorqueing and it has worked fine since. he tolde me it was a common problem with well used trims. Hope that helps.

50HP used two different trim systems depending upon engine model.

If your trim motor has an oval base then the spring in your relief valve has compressed with use. See part number 827672A1

If your trim has a square base then check fluid level. If fluid level is good and motor is spinning then you have popped a seal internally and the system should be professionally serviced.
