posted August 12, 2002 03:14 PM
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I posted the same question a while back and got an answer from rickdb1boat. Thank you, the shift cable seems fine. Here is my problem again. any help would be great.
I used the 'advance throttle only'(fast idle) mode to start my engine on my '01 nitro. It started very easily and we cruised with ease to our spot. When we decided to change spots, we started the engine without problem but when we shifted out of idle the prop would not engage. The prop will not engage at all now. It seems that i can turn the engine over even with the throttle foward now. It should not be like this unless using the (fast idle)advance throttle mode. I believe it is stuck in this mode and that it is stuck in idle. Help please?!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Posts

Do you have a shop manual for the motor? It would really help to understand exactly how the shifting mechanism works. If you don't, you're probably going to be ahead taking the rig to a dealer.

Has anyone had the control box apart? They are very fussy about the relative relationship of the internals. I've had mine apart a few times to lube it, but am always very careful to put it back EXACTLY as it was when opened.

It is a fairly commom problem for the neutral warm up button to stick in and not allow you to engage the gears. Spray some lube around it, I use LPS1, and try to free it. If that doesn't work it is new control time.
