Replacing my Yamaha with a Mercury. Having to rewire all my gauges. I have a quicksilver controller. It has a plug in on the front for a tachometer cable. Is the tachometer the only thing that is run off that cable? The motor is a 1989 6cylinder 90HP. Trying to figure about trim as well. Also as this is my first boat. Does a temp gauge work on a 2 stroke? Thank you for all the info.

The front plug on the MerControl has 3 wires they are ground, switched power and tachometer signal. Hence they can power a tach, fuel gauge, lights for speedo and water pressure gauge.

Your motor likely doesn't have a thermostat, and runs cold at idle and warmer at cruise. This is not ideal for a temp gauge. I would suggest a 0-15 PSI water pressure gauge instead.

You might check the year on that motor, by serial number. I had thought the last IL6 was a couple of years earlier.
