Mercury size? Year? Help

I have a mercury outboard and have zero information on it. The serial Number is 4056198<br />My ignorance bugs me!! Can anything be known about this mystery motor by the serial alone??<br /> Any help would be greatly appreciated.<br /><br /> Ellis

A 1974 11-HP (110) 2-Cylinder engine make sense? Mercury's, oddly, are identified by their serial numbers.<br />If that doesn't make sense, hunt around here for something that does. Go after the Modellguide (top right) and then the Produktionarselista Mercury. I'm afraid the page is Swedish.

Paul. Thanks for the info 110 does make sense in some ways (Approx. Size and 2 cylinder)and '74<br />Is probably about the year. Besides on the external cover (Painted over)Is there any where<br />else on the motor where the model number info might be hidden? Again, Thanks so much for the help..<br /><br />Ellis

Not that I know of other than hunting around for parts with date codes on them under the hood. Check ignition components & carbs for them.
