Hello Everyone. I have a quick question. I have a 2003 Mercury 90hp. The serial number is OT 605708. I took my boat in to the shop and I was told that I needed a stator. After giving me a quote on both the parts and labor, I decided to wait until I saved $ for the job. I brought the boat back and I decided to purchase the parts on my own whenever i saved enough. The stator on my Mercury is red. I was going to orderthe stator but then ran into a problem. The sites say that there is an ELECTRIC 832075A4 type and a MANUAL type 832074A4. There is quite a difference in prices between both. Can anyone tell me what my motor uses. Thank You in advance.

What is your motor doing / not doing.-----Is your motor electric start or a rare manual start model ?

My motor is an electric start. It has an ignigtion key, starter and battery. I was trying to buy the electric stator but the guy at the site told me that I needed part number 832074A4. This is part number is the manaual variety. This is where I am confused. Is it possible that they are mistaken in telling me that I need the part number for the manual one? I would hate to buy the wrong part and not be able to return it later on because it being electronic parts and all. Is it safe to assume that the manual part is for those motors that have pull starts?

Mercury site showing 832075A4 goes for electric start. Unless you are bound to an OEM replacement, CDI electronics offer a good high quality replacement unit. Part number for your model would be a 174-2075K 2. I have a cdi replacement on my 95 merc 90hp and according to previous owner, it's 12 years old and still doing it's job.

I have found that on ebay you can find the stators and most of the people selling them are boat shops. That is where I found one for my 1978 1150 mercury and it tested fine. I am no mechanic on boat motors but I was able to remove and replace mine in less that an hour and the motor ran and the stator was putting out a good charge to my battery. A good boat mechanic can beat me but it was interesting and I learned something. Good Luck!!!
