I have a 1979 Mariner 140 HP outboard engine. There is a blue part up on the switch box housing and it has 2 wires coming out of it. One wire is a ground wire that screws on the housing with when you put the part on. The other wire goes to the switch box poles and attaches to the same pole with a wire that goes to the distributor. I have a service manual on the motor and it calls it a "MERCURY SWITCH". Can some one tell me what this does? The wires on it are damage and it needs to be replaced, I can find one here locally and was wondering if this was a condenser of of some type.

Thanks.

It's a mercury switch. It shuts down the ignition if the engine is tilted past a certain angle.

Re: Mercury Switch

Thanks, I couldn't find one here locally in stock, so I have it bypassed for now.
