Mercury Throttle Adjustment # 2

I have a 9.9 HP, 2003 mercury outboard. I had a question about the throttle. When I engage my engine into gear, the throttle slips into gear with ease, but when I want to open the throttle fully, it is kind of hard, pretty stiff to move the throttle all the way down (open). I was wondering if there is a way to adjust that, so that it is easier to move the throttle to the open position, with a little more ease/smoothness? it is an electric start, center console, remote control model, it has a throttle advance-only button, a kill switch, no hydraulics, everything works on it fine, just wondering if I can make the throttle advance a little smoother? thanks for any replies....

when you push the throttle advance button, does the handle move the same as when it is in gear? if it does disconnect cable at motor and see if it moves freely. this will isolate it motor or cablle problem. if cable problem replace, if motor problem get the wd40 to all the moving parts.

it is just as difficult/hard to move whether I use the advance only button, or actually put it in gear, they both are fairly difficult to engage. I understand what you mean with disconnecting the cable from the motor, i'll give it a shot. But if it's not the cable, is there a way of adjusting the tension, because i've read about people just using an allen wrench to adjust the resistance of the throttle handle? Just wondering, thanks again...
