I have a 1985 Mercury 150 XR2 that the tilt trim unit leaks down.Is this an easy repair, can you still get all parts needed, what other year tilt trim unit would work? Could a hydrolic steering be connected to this unit? Thanks Lee

Usually there is an Oring kit for the trim cylinders and manual release valve and perhaps a seal kit for the tilt cylinder. Check crowleymarine.com for price and availability.

Hydraulic steering should be able to be used with that motor. My neighbor has a Merc 200 of about that year (clamshell cowling), and he has it.

Re: mercury tilt trim

I am not sure if newer units will fit. They may as they are the same basic design. Hopefully someone will come along who knows for sure.

Re: mercury tilt trim

check the mounting shafts. mercury will change a part number on a trim system just for a paint color, a bit of trim, or a change to a different type of rubber. However, the mounting shafts and anchor brackets rarely changed numbers. It is a safe bet that if two different systems use the same mounting shaft then they will also fit either engine.
