mercury tune up

1986 60 hp mercury. owned for 5 yrs. Changed plugs every year. It ran fine but was cold blooded and would always stall when shifting from F to R idle all day long at less than 1 mph for trolling good top end. Took it to shop! $437 tune up prop coated, carb adjustment etc etc , picked up went to lake only runninng on 2 cly. $330 new box , can't get it up on plane without it bogging down 2-3 times, dealer says new fuel pump. whatr is next. we started this in march Am I getting ripped off and if they ever get it right I will never go there agaIN.

I know they can half as repair em and set you up for a new future problem.Had one try to place things out of adjustment just to restir his own business.He even said to place a stupid glass filter between the pump and motor(a fuel starver anytime).They(cons) will speak a lot on help but will set you back up for reservicing!<br />Find a trustable dealer(hard to find)and good luck!

After all that work why didn't they replace a $2 fuel pump diaphram. Assuming you've now got all cylinders firing adjust the carb low speed circuit. Sounds likes they messed up the air/fuel ratio. If it's stumbling real bad, turn the screw 1/2 turn CCW and see what happpens. The airbox usually needs to be put back together before testing.
