I have a Mercury 1973 40 horse (model 402) Had to replace alot of weatherd wires, Well now I have no spark. First I rewired the ignition and put it all back together, I started it and it ran, but I was getting shocked by the mercontrol. I rewired it and solved the shock and now no spark, Electric choke works and motor turns over but no spark, does any one have the wireing diagram for the ignition?

Thanks a bunch.

P.S. What is the Stator?

Re: Mercury with no spark!!

Hello, Mark.

The stator is the stationary coil that has induced current/voltage from the magnet(s)in the flywheel for the primary windings of the ignition coil(s).

Both the Clymer and Selco service manuals have wiring diagrams.

I would suspect a wiring error caused both the shocks and, now, the loss of spark. Good luck. Monday, I will start working mine over.
