I have a 1985 xr2,150 hp, serial #A167228 .Was running last spring. Took motor off to rebuild transom. Back together now and won't start. Strong batt. Kill switch in good working order, tilt kill switch disconnected, replaced bad stator new one checks out good. Trigger checks out good. Rectifier show bad and going to replace.Disconnected red yellow from both switch boxes and will start fine, ran two wires strait from switch boxes to key switch to make sure original wires were not grounding someplace and still crank but no start. Any help please. When priming gas tank bottom carbs will pour out gas. do i need to rebuild them? Lee

Check its not just a fuel hose.Does sound like a stuck float, probably from old fuel/crud in bowl.Should do all of them and reset all float heights to exact spec(for a happy motor).

..........Disconnected red yellow from both switch boxes and will start fine, ran two wires strait from switch boxes to key switch to make sure original wires were not grounding someplace and still crank but no start. .....................

Do you mean that you disconnected the BLACK wire with the thin Yellow trace line and then you had spark on ALL cyls?

This wire from the switchboxes is the 'Ground-to-kill' wire, when grounded by the ignition switch, the safety lanyard, or a short anywhere to ground, kills the spark so the motor cannot run.

Be very careful when connecting this wire to an ignition switch, the CORRECT ignition switich will only connect this wire to a solid Black ground wire with the key turned to the Off position.

Incorrect switches or incorrect connection of this wire to ANY power source (like the battery 12 Volts) will fry the switchboxes.

Your second problem is the flooding carbs. ANY carb that leaks or floods when primed needs attention. Generally, if one carb needs attention, ALL carbs should receive attention, they are of the same age and hours of use, if not done now, they soon may need it.

Update. When putting cap back on it pinched kill switch wire. Checked that once then went back over it again and found the problem. Thanks for the in puts.
