oldmercs.com has the wire harness and everything else you could ever need.

as far as the control box, id check ebay. dealers usually charge upwards of 400 bucks for those, ebay can be had for about a third of that brand new, even less used

Thanks AMD.
I read over it and I'mnot sure why Claims posted it to me as I fail to see how it applies to my original post and question.... oh well.
Thanks again for your help.

Randy

I meant to say "hi Randy", it was late. :)

It applies to you because you just aquired a "strange" motor and outta make sure it's set up right before you hook the throttle cable to it. The leading cause of death of these things is too much spark advance.

And ya AMD, but I'd like a chance to edit / refine it just a *bit* 1st.

-W

Re: mercury year & replacement parts

Thanks Clams...
The motor ran great in the guys back yard even though the control box was semi-pulled apart and most of the wiring harness and battery cables are dry rotted and falling apart. I have unhooked and removed the control box and harness up to the motor. I am going to take the boat to the local marine shop to have the motor completely gone through.
I'm looking to find out what year the motor is and am trying to find a new control box, external and internal wiring harness for it myself before I take it there.
The boat is a 20 foot Misty Harbor pontoon/deck boat with an all aluminum deck. I have already replaced all the carpet, furnture, captains stand & 18' steering cable, top, electrical, batteries and added a CMC PT130 tilt & trim system.

Re: mercury year & replacement parts

It is a 1974 (Eric mentioned that in the 2nd post in case you missed it).

Clams is well experienced in the inline 6 motors....and will give -only- good advice. He just happens to have (new) internal wiring harnesses available too. Check out eBay item 4570668501. There are others (used) available on eBay as well.

There are a variety of places that sell controls & external wiring, the cables are avialable right here at iboats mall:
Throttle Cables

Hope that helps.
