Many years ago Merc put out a grease in a tube that was the best I have ever encountered for prop shafts, driveshafts and any other surface you did not want water to get to - especially salt water. It came in a tube like large toothpaste, was colorless (sort of like vasaline) and was much thicker than the stuff I have seen on the shelf today. It was not for wheel bearings or grease guns. The only way you could clean you hands of it was with mineral spirits.

Anybody know of a like product that is available today?

That sounds like grease that is used to seal o-rings. Yes you really can not get it off your hands. Try a swimming pool supply house for the grease for pool filters and pumps. See if this is the stuff you want.

Bob
