I have a 1982 30 HP Mariner (Serial #30EL689407533) made by Yamaha. I've read that there is a lot if parts interchangeability, and, that in many cases, for the older motors, there is better parts availability and cheaper prices if you go through Yamaha instead of Mercury.

The oldest 30 HP Yamaha for which I can find a parts listing is a 1984. The parts diagrams look identical to the parts diagrams for my motor. However, the parts numbers are different. Is anyone aware of a cross reference chart between Yamaha and Yamaha made Mercury Mariner parts?

For example, one particular part I am interested in is the Cover Nut that holds the prop shaft bearing assembly in place. I found it on the Crowley site under a Mercury part number at $26 and on another site under a Yamaha number at $13. Although the parts diagrams were identical and the little drawings looked the same, I don't know if they are actually the same part.

Also, it seems like the i-boats site indicates a lot better availability for 3'd party parts for the 1984 30 HP Yamaha than the 1982 30 HP Yamaha made Mariner - but, again, with out some way of comparing the part numbers there is no way to make sure I'd actually be getting the correct part.
