I was looking to buy some new ignition components for my 2.2hp mercury but according to mercurypartsexpresss.com as well as the other vendors I usually buy parts from, they are no longer available.

Any good ideas where I can ronud some up?

What would be better is to replace the points with an electronic unit. Years ago I was using a thing called an 'Atom' which just went into the same place as the points.... Problem solved :D

Finally found them... Not called Atom, that was the company we bought them from. They are called Stens and you can see (and order) them at this address "www.m-and-d.com/ST-440-065". The only thing is that they only work on engines that DON'T have an alternator (battery charging system).

Cheers,

I have used the Stens Mega-fire module on several small engines. They seem to work great on everything Ive tried them on.

Anything special to keep in mind? I found a wiring diagram on the web and it seems completely straight forward in that regard. Is it as simple as removing the point/breaker assy and putting the module in it's place?

On all the ones I've done, cut the wire going to the points, splice into the wire to the module, hitch up the ground wire. Done. I've only used them on Briggs and Stratton, Lawson, and Homilite motors, and the motors always started much easier after they were converted. I think it's a very good product, I've been around them for over 20 years, never had one go bad.
Good luck,
Brian

What is the year, or better yet, the serial number of your motor?
Points may be available as aftermarket.

I don't have the serial number on hand at the moment.

I've checked through sierra, etc and they are no longer sold. The link from Laddies above does seem to still have stock of the part on hand, so I can get them from there - but $20+ for a set of points is a bit steep.

This electronic ignition idea sounds like a great retrofit project if it works out though.
