We need a shear pin for the prop on our 1957 35hp Johnson, I cant see in the manual anywhere that it says what kind of metal it has to be. Does it have to be brass? Or can it be stainless steel rod? I know we can get the right one during the week but we were hoping to try the motor today and we have rods of stainless and of brass that fit if it would be safe enough to use?

brass, cut a couple just in case, and take them with you. also order the correct ones.

It is supposed to have a stainless steel DRIVE pin. It is not intended to break except under extreme circumstances. The rubber hub in the propeller takes care of normal shocks and dredgings. Yes, it DOES have a rubber hub, you just can't see it.

Make sure the ones you get fit the cap nut. Two different lengths were used.
