Metal fuel line replacement from the Water Sep filter to the fuel pump

I have a difficult time changing the water separator filter because the metal compression fuel line is in the way. I removed it once to get it out of the way and could not get it back on. Is it ok to use the Sierra flexible fuel line to replace the rigid metal line for this application? The merc part number is 861250. The sierra part number is 18-8115.

Metal is preferable as its tougher and more fire proof -- especially once pressurized by the fuel pump.

( I think its actually a safety requirement for pressure lines on a boat )

-- If the metal line gets bent and misaligned it needs to be bent back into alignment so the fitting can start into the threads.

-- It takes some getting used to but its a skill that can be useful.

I usually bend it as close as I can and push or jiggle the line a little if needed to hand start the fitting a few threads -- ITS important to avoid cross threading.

This subject has come up many times and in my opinion (note my opinion) there is no issue using what you want to use with the Sierra 18-8115 fitting hose.

My 502 MPI VST motor used similar hose between low pressure pump to VST. You should also be able to use USCG Type A1 rubber fuel line so long as you have the correct fittings (barbed) and stainless hose clamps

Mine has the VST and they use hose from low pressure pump to VST and VST to throttle body. As long as it is the correct type you are fine.

If the metal line will not go back on you can loosen the filter mount a bit to allow it to move enough to get the threads started. The same idea works when removing or reinstalling a carb; loosen or thread on the hard line before completely bolting down the carb; the slight movement allows you to overcome slight misalignment and to get the threads to catch without stripping. Also be sure to use the proper wrench for those fittings.
