Prevent mice from chewing your seats, wiring, ropes, gear, weather-stripping etc. this winter during storage! Those buggers can get into anywhere! Buy poison bait packets and put them under seats, in storage holds, behind batts. and tanks and especially inside your outboard motor cover!! (Yes I've seen two outboards with destroyed wiring from mice.)

Write down the number of baits on a slip of paper and leave it in the boat so you can remember to recover them all in the spring. Keep pets and kids away from the boat as long as it holds poisons.

Good practice when storing your classic car, truck, cycle too!

Calico, have you tried mothballs? I know some people cant stand the smell, but those of us who dont mind, they do keep the critters out...works good on snowmobiles too....

Moth balls are a petroleum product. Naphalyne WILL attach some plastics so be very careful where you choose to leave them. They disolve directly into the air (solid to gas).

Bob

Try spreading fabric softener sheets. I know a lot of people that worked for in motorhomes. Mice hate the smell of that stuff as much as I do.

I have been successful in ridding mice from the boat during winter storage.....but last year they chewed up the wiring inside the trailer frame. Any ideas????

Barn cats like to cr*p all over. I vote for the Bounce fabric sheets. I can't stand the smell, but I use a whole box in my camper every year. I also pack them in everywhere in the boat and motorcycle.

Another good solution is peppermint oil. A few drops where ever you want to keep pests out will do the trick. Because it's so strong you have to use very little. Besides your boat will smell minty fresh when you do decide to use it again.

Dutch

There is a product called DECON avail. at most hardware stores. Buy a few of the containers and place at various spots.

Decon works well and will get rid of the most mice. If you put a bowl of water around sometimes, the mice will come to drink after they ingest the decon and you can scoop them into the trash. Last week, my Brother-in-law's Mom and Dad had half their house burnt down from a Squirrel chewing on the wiring. Squirrels and mice are both rodents and can do a lot of damage. When I redid the wiring in my kitchen, the mice had eaten all the insulation off the power feed for the stove. We then had an old sick cat. I put traps out and caught the first one before I could sit back down in my chair in the living room. Caught 5 mice in one night. Now we have three healthy cats and have not seen mice sign in 2 years.

Mr. bill, take a can of the spray foam and seal the ends of the trailer tubes. When you have to replace the wiring, just chip the foam out of the end and replace.....don't forget the opening under the trailer hitch connector and the rear of the tongue......

Kev_alask***
