Have the carbs been overhauled (suspect a bit of crud)?

Check the carbs for dirt/debris.Remove bowls and carefully disassemble and check/clean out needle valve and seat area.If all carbs are clean have the stator tested.Do you have a good fuel filter installed? Is it clean?

Re: Midrange Miss 97' 225 Ocean Runner

Thanks for the consistant responses, guys. Looks like a tune-up, maybe fuel problems, huh?
I know for a fact the motor doesn't get cranked as often as it should, and that the boat sits in the barn for some extended periods with a 1/2 tank of fuel. It's got a Racor filter / separator, which I haven't been real pleased with. Know of a better brand or set-up?
Before tearing into the carbs....should I take it to a pro, or is it something I can handle? I have basic mechanical skills/experience and tools. Think running a spray can of OMC tuner through it might help ?

Thanks again.....kf

Get a manual and pull the carbs and completely dismantle them, soak them overnite in carb cleaner, pay particular attention to the high speed jets, blow them out with compressed air, and install a carb rebuild kit. Do it yourself and save the money, you'll have a better feel for your engine the next time something goes sour.
