Re: Mildew on canvas top

if you did not kill it and it a pricy big top not a $200 job . go to local boaters world or online and see what they have. i installed real conv tops for years. they make good stuff and people will say bleach and tile cleaner . but if you want top to last try to get a strong cleaner or restorer. i used to get this stuff in a gallon that had a sand like stuff in it and it got right into the pores just dont kill the top..but if the top is dead and a cheap one and you are low on funds you can get marhind dye from a auto paint store and that will make it look like new. but that is a last resort as it wost last forever

It is a full camper top that is in excellent shape, besides the mildew stains.
I would imagine it would cost an arm and a leg to replace it.

I see lots of scrubbing in my future.

Thanks,
Chris

I have the same problem on the bimini on this boat. It is a dark blue color and I have tried bleach to remove it. Let us know what works.

if its a big top i would have to disagee with tass, because if the wrong products clean it and dry it out . next year it will be useless, maybe dryed out. . look on overtons or westmarine. like i said i got 10 years installing that same canvas type material on cars. scrbbing hard with comet and bleach is great if the top coat $75 but if its a full canvas do not do that ask a canvas shop it you area what they will use they will say new top.when top is clean use mineral sprits with a clean rag it will give it oil like armor all but better

scrbbing hard with comet and bleach is great[/quote

WRONG! You soap the hell out of any canvas, and the dirt LIFTS.. then hose off. Scrubbing inbeds the crap..gotta know yer fibers a little more. Besides., any bathroom mildew remover will work..spray, rinse..
wash the dog with the brush...
PS. On a clean canvas...scotchgard the living hell out of it (have a 1977 top on my big boat..still original
