I did a search, but didn't see a post about cleaning mildew off life preservers. I'd rather not use bleach if possible. Any ideas?

starbrite mildew remover is about the best.Bleach works great too but you must rinse right away and dont put on the threads. Charlie

Thanks, crazy charlie. Where do you buy it? I've never heard of it before.

Re: Mildew remover

I found it online for $8.99. But, since its considered hazardous, shipping was $20. Forget that! West Marine, Boater's World, etc. should have it.

Thanks, HotByte. I was in the local West Marine the other day and they mentioned they'd bought out Boater's World... I'll try there.

Thanks again.

Re: Mildew remover

Must be a regional thing as I can't find it at any local Walmarts (checked 3 or 4) here in GA. They all had 2 other Starbrite products (Hull cleaner and ???) but no Mildew Remover. Even checked at a Walmart less than 10 miles from one of the big lakes and they didn't have it. Guess I'm stuck going to boat store, darn ;)

Try mixing about 1 cap full of bleach with a cup full of white vinegar, for every two quarts of water... Dip the material into the solution, or brush it on heavily with a light scrubbing actionof a nylon bristle brush...

Follow with a rinse of clear water...

Good Luck, Obiwan...

Re: Mildew remover

The Walmarts here on Long Island have a pretty good selection of starbrite and 3M products. They even have Rid Damp and Damp dry for less than half the price of west marine.By the way these are in the hoseware dept. They also have Synthetic lower unit oil and 2 cycle oil.Its nice to put some of the boating supplies on my brides shopping list.I wonder if they carry beer?????
