milk shake tilt and trim fluid?

1979 140hp rude is what i got there's two things that im worried about one is that the tilt and trim was out of fluid so i filled it and it started to work but then it stopped working so i started draining the unit and i got stawberry milk shake. what is the caues of water intusion on tilt and trim the other thing is that after i drained it unit the two prime rams are rock soild and won't move.

It's a cheap rebuild but lengthy so plan for it a a project. Thw water can get in through the little seal on the manual adjust. Seal at the top of any of the cylinders, lines, etc

I found it hard to move when fluid was missing as well bc of friction. The system shares flkuid among all cylinders. If they used ATF (red) it may have screwed up the seals like issues seen with steering. However johnson steering fluid was once red. It won't move if fluid is in it though unlesss you open the manual valve wich will squirt out fluid when you move it.
