Re: Milky woes

Go Ahead and do your pressure tests.......

If that turns up Nothing,.....

Pull the Intake.... You'll Probably See a Crack,..
Either, in the Bottom of the Intake Manifold,...
Or,.. In the Lifter Valley of the Block........

In My Experince,.... Those are the 1st 2 places to Freeze Crack.........

Pressurizing the cylinders probably won't show you anything, you need to pressureize the cooling system and listen for the leak. The water is getting into the oil from the cooling system.

Re: Milky woes

I looked at the diagrams today and it appearsthatthe freeze plug that popped out is in the head. if the block is cracked, i'll need anew motor right, if head is cracked i will need a head, is it alright to get a regular 4.3 from the salvage yard and put my marine manifold on it? I will be doing the pressure test tomoorow to make sure that all the cylinders are about to the same.

You could probably pull the intake manifold and heads in about 2 hours if your slow like me.. actually more like 4 hours, it takes some time just to get all the tools together... anyway, I guess what Im sayin is, " weather it is the head or the block, your half-way there... then if you have to pull the block, it's alot lighter and easier to move around.... :( :( Good luck

OK, pressure tested and it showed a little difference. I pulled the motor down to the block and I got two cracks in the front of the block. Next, I need to find out where to get a block or a reman short block, any suggestions?

Re: Milky woes

If you want a Block,.... 1985 Should be a 2 pc. rear main seal.......
A Junkyard 4.3l from a Pre-87. Should be the Same Motor.......
You could either rebuild a Junkyard core, or use the internals from Your motor.........
Then use all your Externals on the replacement motor.....

Updating to a Newer than 87 will bring up a bunch of issues with couplers,+ such........

BTW, Don't Worry,.. A Block is a Block,.... They become Marine or not,.. Later......

Good Luck........

Re: Milky woes

Sorry to hear that, but kinda thought you might end up there... many options to go to from here..I prefer going to a local machine shop and have them put a re-build together for me.. Like Rodbolt said one time " I like to shake hands with the man thats doing the work" Only be very sure the parts you take off of the old engine are in good shape or you will be doing it again very soon... good luck...... by the way, Bondo. I have an old 350 at the bottom of the lake that works real good for a mooring, Its about as "marine" as you can get... :D :D

Re: Milky woes

I am thinking od getting a reman block, I checked the salvage yards nad the price for one is about $75 less that a short block. I will probably get a block, and get my heads reworked. I am also thinking of going thru my lower unit while I am in to things. With the price of gas I think the boat would not have made many trips this year. Thanks for all the help
