Min Kota 40pd Power Drive

Is there any way to test the this trolling motor with-out the pedal? Can I power it and jump any of the terminals? Its a 2001 model 40pd. I got it from a friend and dont want to buy a pedal until I know it works.Thanks

I am needing to test the head unit. It has only seven pins, It is an earlier 2001 unit. Is there any way to jump across to see if prop spins, and if I can get the head unit to move? It would be great a diagram of that side though. Thanks
