Did you ever see the old Austin Maxi ????

no, however I have driven a monster-mini (vtec converted mini) and it was absolutely a blast. that is now one of the vehicles to build in my bucket list.

Re: Mini Cooper Q's

I can tell you all this:

I was rear-ended on I-94 north of Chicago last November by a young woman driving a mini. (She had knocked her water bottle onto the floor and was trying to retrieve it, so didn't notice that traffic had stopped in front of her.) Totaled both my Ranger pick-up and her mini.

The salient point is that my tailgate wound up right against her windshield; my rear wheels and axle were off the ground, and that thing supported all of it. When the tow truck tried to pull my truck onto the flat bed, he had to draw the two of them up to the back of his rig and pull my truck off her hood. That mini simply rolled forward when he winched and carried my truck with it.

And the woman wasn't hurt! It was a significant crash to total my truck - bent frame, etc., and of course the mini was trashed. I gained a certain respect for the mini's with that event.

I can't speak to the reliability of the little cars but I can confirm this story completely, we had a Dodge Ram 1500 and a Mini go head to head TC, both drivers needed to be extricated, driver of the Mini walked away after extrication, driver of the Ram was Flight For Lifed and recovered after a month or so, I will never joke about the mini's survivability again. Both vehicles were going approx. 65 MPH, I bet that hurt a little bit..

OK, I'm gonna pass on this deal.

For starters I've never seen a car get so much negative feedback.

Not just on this forum but everywhere I asked about it.

And this morning I found one to try out and felt like a sardine in a can...

Come winter, with a jacket on, I doubt I could get the door closed.
