minimum HP

Hi, I have a question regarding what would be the minimum HP to use with a 12' inflatable for diving with 2-3 people + equipment. I know that the more the better, but here in south florida the dive sites are very close to shore.
My point is that most of the trip is in the NO WAKE ZONE , but at the same time I don't want to be underpowered when comes to tides or currents.
Any sugestions?

Well, if you want to plane, I'd say 25hp for 2-3 people + dive gear.

I agree with drowned rat. I had a 15 hp with my 12 footer and needed to upgrade to the 25. All you need is a 25 mph wind and the current going against you and you will have troubles making headway. Having lived in S Florida I know how quickly the weather can change. Save money buy buying the biggest you can now vs buying smaller than having to trade it in for a bigger one. I know this from experience.

Re: minimum HP

I would go with a 20. I don't disagree that a 25 would in theory be better, but the weight jump on engines now occurs between 20 and 25 hp. The advantage you get from the additional 5 hp of the 25 is cancelled by it's additional weight on a 12'6" or below. We are seeing only a 1 to three mph difference at WOT between the 20's and 25's depending on the boat.
