Hey y'all... I have a Minn-Kota 599 12/24 volt foot-controlled troll-motor, but last year I decided to re-wire a few things, and now only have 12 volts :( Does anyone have any idea how to properly wire this particular unit? I also have a pretty complicated volt meter for the 2 marine trolling batteries, and I believe this is where I tore it up. I cannot find a schematic anywhere online, and I wanna be ready REAL soon! Thanks, y'all.

Provide us with a little more detail. Does the trolling motor have two or three wires in the harness? Is the 12/24 switch on the motor or on a separate switch panel at the front of the boat. Does the trolling motor plug into a connector at the front of the boat. Is this a three or four wire connector? If its a four wire connector check the back of it -- do all four terminals have wires on them. As for the volt meter, that wiring is nothing special and we can work through that. Post back with these bits of information and I'll walk you through it.

There are 3 wires in the harness, the 12/24 swith is under the foot steer control, There is a round plug which disconnects from a socket in the front of most bass boats including mine, It has 3 wires -Red/Orange/Black. The funny thing is, there is a small fuse panel in the battery compartment with 2 HUGE fuses, one onnected to a red and one to a white. TOTAL in that area: 2 white wires, one red, and of course, the black (neg). Haven't a clue where the mystery white with no fuse routs to. I, tonight, spent $300 in batteries for this, since I could only get my old batteries to 70% and 80%, so I hope to get it all proper. Email me, and I will send a million pics if needed!! Thanks a lot! (tennesseevalleysoundcreations@frontiernet.net)

OK -- here's the plan. Connect the two batteries in series as normal. BAT #2 POS goes to BAT #1 NEG. BAT #1 POS (assume its the red wire) goes to one terminal on the trolling motor socket. BAT #2 NEG also goes to the trolling motor socket (black wire or ground). Now, the white wire with the second big fuse is actually the 12V side of this set-up. Connect it to the BAT #2 POS. The two large fuses protect the 24V line and the 12V line. The unfused line I would venture is from the battery meter but I would think those connections would be made at the back of the trolling motor socket. There would be no need to run them back to the batteries. Can't help there unless we have more detail. I have a wiring diagram I'll send you.

Re: Wiring included on a 2002 Crestliner for a bow mount Minn Kota

Re: Wiring included on a 2002 Crestliner for a bow mount Minn Kota

I have a 2002 Crestliner Angler 14 prewired for a bow mount electric motor. I now have a Minn Kota Edge 65 that I have attached to a plug that connects to a terminal pre installed on the Crestliner in the front deck area of the boat. The plug has a 12 volt or 24 volt wiring possibility depending on need. I wired the plug to the terminals of the Minn Kota 65 according to the 24 volt set up. Now the Crestliner comes equipped under the bow deck with two sets of wires - 2 positive and 2 negetive. I have to set up for 24 volts. How do I connect the 4 wires so that the Kota Edge gets its 24 volts?

Since you are running 24 volts only, you don't need all four wires -- you only need one pair (one red/one black). Shown below is a very standard 24 volt system. Connect one red and one black wire as shown. Note the jumper between the two batteries. Make sure this jumper is on the POS terminal on the left battery and the NEG terminal on the right battery. This jumper is what provides the SERIES connection. At the bow, the red and black wires from the batteries can connect to any of the terminals on the receptacle. The other two wires from the batteries will not be used so tape the battery ends to avoid confusion in the future. For the troller plug, remove any jumpers in it. Connect the two troller wires to the terminals that match up with the two in the receptacle. Plug in and go fishing.
