Your breaker or any type of fusing device should be as clo9se as you can get it to the battery.

The circuit breaker only provides protection after the point it's installed. So keeping it close to the battery leaves only the small section of wire from the battery to the breaker unprotected.

I think that made sense.......It's 5am here and I just woke up...... and the coffee isn't ready yet....

Ideally, the circuit breaker input should be ON the positive post of the battery. But depending on the type of breaker you have, that type of mounting may not be possible. Otherwise, what Splat said. You want it as close to the battery as you can get.

Mine were always inside the battery box.

Re: Minn Kota Breaker Question....?

I have a 12" section made up for this installation.......i assume this is too long. I wanted to use this because it has the lugs on each end with Heat Shrink....

Do you guys see a problem if i shorten this piece and use a Butt Connector to fues this piece back together...?

Re: Minn Kota Breaker Question....?

Why would you take a piece of wire that already has two connections on it (ring terminal on each end), cut it to shorten it, then add a butt splice to add two more connection points of failure. Rather than a butt splice, cut the wire and add a ring terminal. You then have the same thing you started with but the correct length.

I just figured this might be easier than trying to put a Ring terminal. The only reason i say this is because i have never installed a ring terminal on any electrical connection before...but have done MANY butt connectors in my past with sterio and speaker hookups....what you say makes sense, besides how hard can it be? Right?

I went ahead and Mounted The Minn Kota Circuit Breaker Outside the Battery box....this will shorten my run to about 4 inches....

And adding the ring terminal with a crimper was no different than adding the butt splice with a crimper -- not???
