Minn Kota Heading Control Puck - Distance from Trolling Motor

Confirming... consensus seems to be that getting the heading puck farther from the trolling motor doesn't add precision or anything to operation of the i-pilot, etc. Has anyone found that to be not the case? I'm mounting on a 16' aluminum boat... so mounting it right near the motor gives me a "protected" spot to put it near the gunwale... but i do have the option of putting it in the back of the boat somewhere if that helps.
