Hi all,

I am looking to upgrade my trailer boat to something a bit bigger - fishing focused and which can handle rougher water than my current boat with more comfort, and which I can keep in the very nearby local marina. A good deal has come up on a 2000 Grady 272 Sailfish which has been extensively refurbed (current gen electronics and 4 strokes in last 2 years).

Before this came up I was planning on putting a minn Kota on my current boat (c. 6m plate aluminium).

how well would the 87” 112lb hold spot on the Grady?

https://www.minnkotamotors.com/news...-saltwater-trolling-motor-87-inch-shaft-icast

this video seems to show it working well on a similar sized boat. But a lot of the online guides to sizing seem to suggest 2lb of thrust per 100lb of boat and a max of circa 5000lb of boat. I assume the minn Kota video on the 28” is a vote of confidence from them on this size boat?

anybody with real life experience on this?

thanks in advance!

Depends on the current and wind your dealing with

Current wise the Grady and the hydraSport would be similar.

Wind wise the Grady is going to be a much larger sail. Put up the curtains and the difference is sizable. I drop 1 to 1.5 mpg towing with the curtains up.

From a practical standpoint I’m not sure how a bow mounted TM would work on a walk around.

Money might be better spent on a good, high speed windlas

What type of fishing are you doing?

Thanks dingbat

all sorts, but for when I wanted to use the Electric motor rather than drifting for squid (artificial jigs) or pinkies (Soft plastics) I’d intend to spot lock, cast around, move 5m, repeat, etc..
