I was debating on whether to buy a minn kota onboard battery charger, it is a 2 bank 10 amp charger. does anybody know what this means in terms of length of time to charge my cranking and deep cycle trolling battery?

Hi there mc. There are too many variables to give an absolute answer, but 10 amps is the norm and should recover your deep cycle battery from a 50% discharge in as little as a few hours for a small battery to half a day or more for bigger batteries. Your cranking battery shouldn't need charging, other than from the engine, very often unless you're using it to troll with as well as crank your motor. Good luck.

I like having two trolling batteries. Often I troll more then charger has time to keep up with. I would go with the two bank charger.

If you have two batteries you need a way to charge both. Yes the stating will likely be charged by your motor. If when you retreive you leave all the radio on the Gps, pump the bilge and raise and lower your outdrive your starting battery is no longer fully charge. I like to charge as soon as I get home and it is the best thing you can do to make your batteries last a long time. When I get home I hook up the charger unload all the gear, clean the fish, cover the boat, check the charger to make sure fully charged then disconnect charger.

Even a small group 24 deep cycle discharged can take 18 hours to fully charge with a 10 amp automatic charger. A two bank 10 amp charger will do the job nicely. I prefer a single 10 amp or more automatic charger and charge thru a battery isolator. I have had a lot of good luck with my batteries as mever had a battery that did not last 6 years. You need to charge all your batteries at least once a month year round.

On My boat batteries charge thru my battery isolator. The engines charges both batteries from the 35 amp alternator while engine running. At home I have a plug up front to plug my 10 automatic battery charger into which will charge both batteries thru the same battery isolator my engine uses. From My truck also have a 12 volt charge line that runs back to the trailer and can be plugged into the plug up front on my boat to charge the batteries from my trucks 65 amp alternator while going down the road.
