I've got a 74# minn kota rip tide. The last couple of times using it, It will run fine. When I turn it off (say to lift a crab pot) and then try to turn it back on, it will either come right back on or I will have to turn it on and off a few times to get it to engage again.

I rewired the 6 gauge wires to a quick disconnect ( i wanted to do that anyway) thinking my origanal may have had some problems. After doing so , same problem. While the motor is in the garage I found that if I give the prop a little kick, the prop will engage.

Seeing a similar thread today on Iboats, I'm wondering if I have something foregin behind or in my prop shaft? I can't figure out how to remove my prop. I see a screw but can't get it to budge. Do I need a special tool?

I'm also wondering if I may have a faulty switch or may need new brushes. Someone mentioned that was an issue for them, as I was reading about minn kota motors a few years ago.

I'm not all that handy with such issues but I'd sure like to give the prop problem a try. It seems like something easy enough for a motor dummy like myself. If that's not it but brush or switch problems, my best guess would be to take it to minn kota service tech.

Could anyone lend a idea if I might be on the right track and is the switch, brush repair issue best left done for the pro's?
