I am thinking about buying a Minn Kota electric trolling motor, model Turbo Pro42. Has a foot pedal control. Cable steering. Question, When I step on the pedal (with no electric hooked up yet) the power head turns right and left. The upper part of the shaft turns with it, but NOT the lower half of the shift nor the prop housing itself turns with the powerhead. Is there a shear pin or something connecting the upper half and lower half of the shaft?

If this is merely a cable controlled unit, then the foot will work without any power. But the entire motor and motor housing should move as well. I don't know how yours is setup, but usually there are a couple set screws that tighten against the shaft at the top (head section) that turns the motor. You may need to open up the head section and have a look see. JMHO
