I have three boats, two of them have Minnkota trolling motors and the 3rd one needs a trolling motor. My question is, I have had great service of of my Minnkota's and I need to buy a motor for my 3rd boat. It's a 19ft Astroglass Bass Boat and I'm going with a 55 or 54 pound thrust motor, soo, which is better to go with? Motorguide or Minnkota for that boat application? Any replies back would be greatly appreciated as well as personal experiences to help me make my decision. Thank you very much.

personally i think it is just a personal preference, both are good motor. get the one with the best mount for your situation, and best price. i love the wireless remote of the motor guide, and will never go back to a manual motor.

For the most part, I think in is a Chevy - Ford thing. I like my Motorguide Wireless, but if you are happy with your MinnKota's, why switch? With a bass boat, most look for the cable type steering for positive control without looking at the head, to see which way it is pointed. They usually go with a scissors type mount. On a 19' bass boat, 55lbs seems on the light side for thrust. Consider moving up to a 24V system.

What Daddy said. Both are good brands.

I would stick with MK and go to the Co-Pilot wireless Auto Pilot model.

55lbs of thrust on that boat will be fine. 24v motors can get really expensive and of course you'll have to add another battery..... Just my .02.

It might barely be adequite in that size boat if only dealing with calm, no current water. If the plan is to fish derbies, local events, etc, will soon find out why most 19' bass boats use 24V systems, and 21'ers use 36V. Buying not enough, is more costly in the end.

Bass boats have very little freeboard and as such have little wind resistance. So if you're mostly lake fishing a 55 will be fine. If you're fishing rivers with much current then you may need more.

I have a 55 wireless minnkota on my flats boat and even in 20-25mph winds it pulls the boat just fine.

Now if I'm fighting the tide and the wind it isn't going anywhere fast, but even then I can hold over a hole or reef without a problem.
