Minor cracking

I bought an older neglected boat and found some very minor cracking in the gel coat after I washed it. Would a coat or two of enamel paint possibly fill it in, or do I need to get some new gel coat?

Re: Minor cracking

The mil thickness of paint is not sufficient to bridge any gel coat crack. It may look really nice going on but it will get sucked up into it. The best remedy would be to properly prep ( if you're going to paint ) and fill those little PITA webs with something like Marine Tex. Prime with appropriate stuff and then apply your top coat. If you want to try to fill with gel coat then the process gets a little more involved - to do it correctly. Either way it all boils down to your likes and dislikes of what a finished product is to your eyes.
