Minor fiberglass damage, or major?

I am considering purchasing this boat, however I have no idea as to how serious this damage is. The cracks and small chunk taken out of the fiberglass in this area near the bow eye seems to be about an 8 inch deep or so. This was a result of improper trailering. The chunk near the bow tie does not concern me as much as what appeared to be cracks up towards the top of the keel. How thick is the fiberglass there? Should this be a major concern?

Major. If it was great boat at a low price it could be worth fixing.

What is in the picture is not the easiest thing to repair...

Not impossible.

But you mention other signs of damage that might be fatal to the hull.

Thanks for the responses guys, the gentleman was going to bring it down to the boat shop so that they could check out the motor today. However based on your observations, I told him not to. After calling around and talking to some people about glass repair, it appeared that we would be looking at somewhere to the tune of $800 for the repair.

The seller did not want to come down any more than his final offer of $4,500. He said he had to sell it for that because that's what he had into it, I told him that he was going to have to be into it for a little while longer because I am not buying it for that price.

Unfortunately comma somebody else probably will and they will end up with a mess on their hands.

What are the dangers of having gel coat on fiberglass damage at this particular area of the boat? Can the fiberglass get waterlogged and lose its strength? Or is that just a crucially important place on the whole that keeps everything together?

If I am seeing the picture correctly, this damage is a lot more than just "gel coat". this looks like pretty brutal abuse putting the boat on the trailer time and time again and just running into the winch post every time. (Like parking your car by simply driving into a concrete barrier at 5 MPH every time you park instead of using the brake.)
Can it be fixed? .... Sure, but the proper way to do it would be to separate the deck from the hull (disassemble the entire boat) and make the structural repair from the inside (and fix the cosmetic result from the outside). A lot more than $800.....

the stem area is sort of what helps hold everything together. A bit less critical on a glass boat than on a wood boat, but still pretty important.

It appears that someone bought it..........or he traded it in on another boat.

They are selling it for 1K over what he was asking...........lol. Maybe they got it fixed and are selling it now. Or maybe not.............

Either way, im glad I ran as it appears that he was unable to sell it to an outright buyer.
