Having grown up in the south, I'm appalled that I didn't discover the Mint Julep until recently. I knew of the drink from the movies, but never knew what it was, exactly.
Here's how I make mine.
Make a syrup with about a cup of hot water and about two or three tablespoons of sugar. You want a really sweet water mixture to be your mixer.
Add about two fingers of Kentucky bourbon whiskey to a glass, add an ample amount of fresh mint, crumpled up to release flavor, then add the syrup mixture and some ice. I like mine strong, so I don't add any more water, but if you'd like a less sweet/less strong drink, add some filtered water.
It is soooo good.
