I have a 2008 Ford Escape and I'm looking for mirror extenders. Does anyone know of any? Thanks.

I prefer this type, for about $45.

Re: mirrors

Those look clunky.... seem awkward to put on... are a big pita to store and work better than ANY other mirror you will ever use!....

The first time I drove a semi truck with mirrors on the front of the hood I thought I had died and gone to heaven

Sooooo much easier on the eyes to glance at a mirror out there too.

Re: mirrors

while I agree, plenty of mirrors that will work.

a ford escape doesnt have much of a tow rating. anything within the tow rating should be able to be seen past by the current mirrors.

what are you towing?

I'm towing a 17' Monarch aluminum. total package weighs 2340 lbs. My manual says I can pull 3500 lbs.

Re: mirrors

If it has the option for a tow package you may be able to find a set of those in a junk yard or after market.

Re: mirrors

You are supposed to be able to see what is behind your trailer, not just what is in the lane next to you.

69" wide mirrors can't legally see past and behind a 73" wide boat.

Legally see past? I'd like to see how that law reads ;) I agree with the other guys - stock mirrors should be fine when towing a little boat even behind an Escape. The Escape is roughly the size of the Sorrento we used to pull a 19ft with and I never noticed any need for mirror extensions on that one either.

Re: mirrors

If seing behind the tow is actually a legal requirement in some states, guess truckers are having some real issue with it, or there is a caveat about maximum width.

Re: mirrors

just a little wiggle of the trailer lets the driver see behind even a 53' trailer.
I wouldn't worry about bigger mirrors for that combination but then I've been towing for over 25 years... IF I were just starting out I could imagine that a little peace of mind from bigger mirrors MIGHT make me feel more confident and might be well worth a few extra $$

Re: mirrors

The boat and trailer are pretty wide and I would like to be able to see the trailer wheels when launching.

And you can't?? If the trailer is wider than the car then you should just be able to lower the mirrors and have a perfect view of the trailer tires.

347.40 Mirrors. (1) No person shall operate any motor
vehicle upon a highway unless such vehicle is equipped with a
mirror so located as to reflect to the operator a view of the roadway
for a distance of 200 feet to the rear of such vehicle. Mirror(s) shall
be of sufficient size to show vehicles approaching from the rear.

You will have to look it up for your state, but the idea is that you will be able to see approaching emergency vehicles.

Re: mirrors

The bigger the better. The more field of vision you have both regular and wide angle the safer you'll be and the easier it will be to drive. Also mirrors that are heated for the fog, powered so you can adjust them from inside the vehicle and blinkers on the outside of the mirror (incase someone is in your blind spot and you go to take a turn they can still see you) are nice touches.

Re: mirrors

Launching the the boat is a practice. launched 14 footers to 25 footers. just watch the mirrors and keep it straight or adjust.??? Bigger or extended won't help.

Re: mirrors

The trailer is 98" wide and the boat is 85" wide. The problem is the boat is fairly close to the rear window. I can deal with it the way it is but I'd like to be able to see a little more.
