misfiring when acclerating

Hi,<br />Tex here again for some help. I have a 1985 115 evinrude vro-v4 and it will idle like a brand new motor . but when u ingauge the throttle u can hear it misfiring like running on 3 cylinders. did a compression test all cylinders were in the 110-120 range. i checked the plug wires and one of the boots have a crack down the side. could that be the prob. or can u suggerst anything for to try nerext. thanx alot......Tex :eek:

Hello <br />You could try to hold your finger on the cracked boot while the engine runs.If you can,then that is not the problem. :D :D

Hi Tex,<br />in response to what rolmops post, be careful with this test you may get your tallywhacker knocked in the dirt.

Take a spray pump bottle from wife's hair spray collection and wet down each wire and coil one at a time while idling. If the cracked boot is the culpret, it'll act up worse when wet. If this has no affect, check for strong spark at each cylinder. If appears good, try replacing all plugs....
