Picked up a 1984, 199 Bowrider, 3.0l Mercruiser, outdrive is mercruiser also, has 3.0L on it. Do not have the engine or outdrive serials. Boat and floor is in really good shape. Almost new looking inside.
Heres the problem, it pings at idle and when underway. The miss started after about 20 min of running. Good volts, Oil pressure is good, temp is good showing about 145-155 on the gauge. WOT about 4300 RPM. Power seemed smooth though acceleration, whether easy or hammered. Not a hesitation when coming up and out of the water. Starts up perfectly fine cold or hot, cold- 2 pumps of the handle and she fires right up. Hot- bump the key. Motor shakes alot when first started, which seems normal according to my research. A little shaky when warmed up, noticed it shoke the boat a little in the water at times idling.
Boat hasn't been run on the water this year at all, started twice on the hose, and was winterized 10/13 (have reciept). Not sure if stabil was used. Oil is crystal clear. Had about 4-6 inches of gas in the tank when I picked it up, and I put about 5 gal of recreation (non Ethanol) gas in it before hitting the water. Smelled like it was running rich, but that could have been from another boat, because while it was idling we were in a high traffic area waiting to get to the ramp.
Could this be caused by the low amount of gas that was left in it for over 6 months? Should I drain it, or add seafoam or another additive(s) and fill it up and run it? Just don't wanna burn the motor down...
