I have a 1986 wellcraft classic 180 with a 3.0l mercruiser.

When i give it the throttle and get to about 4300 rpm's it bogs down a bit and it sounds like it's missing. It will bog down, then speed up, then bog down etc. I think i have to re-time the points or something like that. a little help?

Sounds like a full tuneup, including a compression test, along with new points, condenser, cap and rotor, even wires if they are original along with some new fuel filters set the dwell, and reset the timing, and checking the advance timing, may just cure your problems.

Had the exact same problem with my 3.0 merc. Turned out to be clogged up anti-siphon valve at the fuel intake. Tons of junk came out when I cleaned it. I went ahead and replaced it today and it ran like a champ.
Just a thought. East $20 fix.
