Missing High speed orifice?

While rebuilding my carbs I found one of them is missing a high speed orifice. After taking one side out I flipped it over and the other was not there. What would this do to how the motor runs? Thanks

It would flood the cylinder, cause excessive smoking and rough running.

After you fix the carburetors, you should de-carb to clean out the engine.

You might also want to service the recirculation check valves.

Should not affect the idling. Bet your fuel economy will go up when you replace the high speed jet.

You did not say if this was new to you motor. The reason I ask is that people do interesting things to motors to compensate for another problem. My bet is that a former owner had a clogged carburetor and was not running very well at high speed. The high speed jet may have been removed and then the motor may have run better. Now that you cleaned the carburetor the motor will be getting too much fuel.

Re: Missing High speed orifice?

I have had this boat and motor since July. It is a 1984 Evinrude v4 140hp. I have used it about 15 times since I got it and just recently it has been dying at trolling speeds. The last time I opened it up the motor ran good. I am putting it back together today and will run it on the muffs. I won't get to run it on the water for a couple weeks. Thanks

My bad guys I missed one of the orifices. Probably shouldn't have started to work on the carbs after a few beers. I put everything together and it fired right up. It ran good on the muffs and will try to get her out in the next few weeks.
