missing key?

Hello all,I have a question I hope someone can help me with,I just purchased a used quicksilver shifter and when recieved it in the mail it had no key for the ignition! how do I go about trying to find a key to match ignition or do I have to purchase a new ignition? Also the shifter has wiring for trim & tilt but my engine does'nt have this, can I just open controller box and take them off? Thanks in advance for any help.

Check the area around where the key is inserted. There should be a letter stamped there. If you find that letter, that's all the Merc dealer needs to know to give you the correct key. Otherwise take the assembly to a Merc dealer. They have a try-out set. There are only 8 or 9 keys. Buy one, then go to a hardware store and have them cut a few extras. Not much cheaper, but cheaper in quantity.
