Missing "Sealing Ring"

While I was changing the lower unit this evening I noticed that once I pulled the drive shaft down, and out, I was missing the "Sealing Ring" from the top of the shaft, near the bevel. I thought maybe it fell out, but I looked everywhere.

Is it possible that the Sealing Ring is logged up in there still? I shined a flash light in there and didn't see anything that resembled the piece. This also raises another question, could the motor operate without this piece? The reason I ask is because I recently purchased the motor, just wondering if the previous owner ran it without.

Thanks,

Re: Missing "Sealing Ring"

It is supposed to keep the grease in.Take a coat haner and make a small hook and see if it's still there. If not it's not necessary.Get an 0-ring kit and find one that fits.Jerry

Re: Missing "Sealing Ring"

I will try to see if its still up there, I hope so.. But it didn't look like it. I tried looking online for a replacement, and didn't find anything. Is a O-ring of the same size my only option?

Thanks,
